The Massachusetts Association of School Business Officials (MASBO) has presented a 2025 Friend of MASBO Award to Michael Mason, Jr., Deputy City Manager for Finance for the City of Chelsea. He was honored at the association’s recent Annual Institute in Falmouth.

The award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to facilitating the work of school business officials in their communities, and/or who have consistently provided significant assistance to MASBO. The award is sponsored this year by U.S. Omni and TSACG Compliance Services.

Mr. Mason has served as Deputy City Manager since March 2024. He previously worked for more than a decade in school business roles for the Chelsea Public Schools and Arlington Public Schools. His previous experience in the private sector included roles at Partners HealthCare, Rite Aid, and the Massachusetts Port Authority.

In presenting the award, MASBO Executive Director Margaret Driscoll noted that Mr. Mason has presented to the association’s members on a variety of topics and has mentored other school business administrators. He previously served on the MASBO Board of Directors.

“Michael has lifted up business office staff to take on leadership roles and develop them into the confident and contributory practitioners they are today,” said Ms. Driscoll.

Mr. Mason earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from Salem State University and a Master of Business Administration from Boston University.
